Jesus is our Passover Lamb

Passover

Exodus 12:13
And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Let My People Go

Many years ago in Egypt the last of the plagues were falling on the inhabitants of Egypt. God, through Moses, asked Pharaoh to let His people go. They were slaves at the time.

The first born male of every family was sentenced to die.

Nine plagues had fallen and the tenth was about to come.

The first born male of every family was sentenced to die.

But the Lord made a way for all the first born to be saved.

He told each family to take a lamb – spotless without blemish – and roast it whole, without breaking any of its bones, because it represented the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Covered by the blood of the Lamb of God.

The Lord told the people to take the blood from the lamb and put it on the sides of the door and above the door on the main entrance of their house so when the Angel that was bringing death and destruction saw the blood he would pass over that house and all inside would be safe no matter what their nationality.

Even the Egyptians were safe if they obeyed.

But those who didn’t obey suffered death and sorrow.

That was the first the Passover.

Today in the last days when the end comes and the Lord returns, those who are saved are covered in the blood of the lamb.

The rest of the world suffers death and destruction but those who believe the Lord are safe because they accept the sacrifice of the lamb, Jesus.

Passover was a foreshadow of the great plan of salvation.

Here is an interesting thought – one of my direct relatives on my mother’s side of the family was in Egypt at the time of the Passover and if God never delivered His people from Egypt, they would have been a doomed race and I would have never been born.

My Levitical family line goes all the way back to Egypt and further back to Jacob who had 12 sons and one of those sons was Levi.

Jacob was the grandson of Abraham, the father of a great nation, and Abraham was a direct descendant of Noah, and Noah was a direct descendant of Adam who was created by the hand of God.

We are all called to be a part of that holy line of families from the beginning, by adoption through Christ.

1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

Prayer for today:

May the Lord give you wisdom to see the opportunities around you to share the Gospel of the coming Kingdom with those around you, and the boldness to make the best of each of those opportunities in love.

We ask these things through Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
